I knew Peru is the country right on the equator, and is cold since it is in a high altitude. The beaches in the northern area are really beautiful, but southern part is mainly dessert. It also snows about 5 meters in the winter even though right on the equator. The water is insufficient; besides, it doesn't rain much so while they can use the aqueduct water for 5 hours in the morning, they have to conserve water. The Peruvian staple food is potatoes. There are 80 kinds of potatoes and they come in many colors. There are 16 kinds of corns there and some of them are purple as well. Their meal is like Niku-Jaga (Japanese food: boiled and seasoned with potatoes and meet). If you go into the forests, you can see varieties of fruits like the Camu Camus. Some people who travel to this area get altitude sickness. Tea is pretty much the only medicine. Oh, if you eat some cocoa, which as you know is a drug; then you might not have to get the altitude sickness. It's pretty surprising and disgusting to know that the cocoa is not drug in Peru.

Jasmin came here from Peru in April last year. I was surprised her Japanese speaking skills. The population in Peru is 24,380,000. There are so many ancient relics there. The Lines and Geoglyphs of Nasca and Pampas de Jumana are very famous. Even though it's been for so long, the terrestrial picture remains clearly. They still keep and respect habit of the Inca period of history. People mostly are catholic since Spanish conquered the area. Their meals are mainly potatoes; there are 80 types of potatoes, 16 types of corn, and many fruits such as Camu Camus, which has 60 times lemon of Vitamin C. Their agriculture is prosperous and exporting coffee, wheat, and cocoa. The Education system is elementary school for 6 years, and 5 years after that totals 11 years of education, which is actually longer than in Japan. Most of tourists often go to Machupichu. It takes 8 days to get there with walk from the capital, Lima.
